Deer Island

This small island just south of St. George is a haven for fishing. You get to the island by riding the hourly ferry from L'Etete at the mainland.

Tip: a  nice place to stay is theSchooner House (contact owners Gil and Deenie at http://www.bbcanada.com/2053.html) at L'Etete, just 2 minutes from the ferry docks. Their backyard overlooks the bay.

The island is a showcase of colorful boats of different sizes and shapes.

At Deer Island Point Park, birds feast on mudfish and other delicacies caught on whirlpool as the tide lowers.

Take the ferry at Letete. The ride is free and the view is priceless.

A bird perched on a rock is unfazed by the ferry.

Ripples behind the ferry reflect the light of the setting sun. Drive further south to Deer Island Point and you can take another ferry to Campobello Island.

Large mansions are a common site on the island . . .

. . . so are large piles of lobster traps.
