Along Sustenpass

To drive southbound from the Berner Oberland towards Cannes, France, you must cross the Swiss Alps through a zig-zag route, called the Sustenpass and then go south through Italy.

The Sustenpass Route

Driving the Sustenpass can be treacherous but you are rewarded with exhilarating views of the Swiss Alps.

Three views of the same waterfall.

When you look at it from below, this waterfall adds beauty to the granite mountains along the Sustenpass route. In fact, the rock on which the water flows is a tunnel along the same route.

This family was quite adventurous. They parked their van along the highway and stood on top of a large ice block to take pictures.

Wassen

This town is situated near the eastern end of the Sustenpass route, close to the Italian border.

The town landmark is a beautiful church on top of a hill.

Behind the church is a graveyard. You can commemorate  the dead with the mountains as your backdrop.
