The Berner Oberland

We spent the night at Lauterbrunnen and then took the train to Murren the following morning. These are two of the Swiss towns in a region known as the Berner Oberland.

A view of the Jungfrau mountains from Murren.

Lauterbrunnen

A room with a view. That's what we had in our stay at Lauterbrunnen's Hotel Staubbach, where a waterfall is right outside our window.

This valley town in the Berner Oberland is waterfall country, receiving snow that melted from the Swiss Alps surrounding it.

Church spire just behind our hotel.

This is the only roadway that passes through town. It leads to the end of the valley just a few minutes drive away.

A glimpse of the snowy peaks of the Jungfrau mountains .

Nightshot taken from our hotel room window.

Murren

You can get to Murren from Lauterbrunnen by way of a cable car. We took the alternate route, a train ride going up the mountain slope.

We caught this cow being chased by a tractor down a sloping road, during our train ride to town.
