The highlight of our stop at
Skagway is the train ride on the White Pass and Yukon Route. The train
picked us up from the pier and took us from the town up to the mountains
of British Columbia and the Yukon Territory (which are part of Canada).
The tracks date back to the gold rush when prospectors scoured the
mountains and the trains are replicas of the ones used back then. We
stayed at the platform of our car for most of the ride to take awesome
pictures. |

The views in this two hour ride
were breath-taking (considering there's less oxygen there). Almost the
entire track is along ravines and cliffs. Waterfalls, some within arms'
reach, flow through some parts of the track. The train went through
tunnels and a fair bit of snowy paths. |
 |
| At the end of the route on top
of a mountain, the conductor orchestrates a reversal of the train, i.e.,
the engine moves to the rear of the train to pull the cars the opposite
way going back to town, using the same tracks when it came up.

In town, the train makes a
short stop to drop off passengers at the
shopping district then proceeds back to the pier.

There are a lot of things to
buy there. For example, how about some bear skin?
